meet JOAN

Joan Fricke is a Filipino-American, multidisciplinary artist. She weaves original songs with dance to further realize her storytelling and world building. Previously Assistant Choreographer and dancer for B. Dunn Movement, Joan is now Artistic Associate for the company's production of ECHO Immersion (Coming 2025). Joan has worked with many LA artists including Heidi Duckler Dance, Iris Company, Acts of Matter, Carlon, and A. Ordaz Dance. Her stage credits include Zoe Scofield, Yuanyuan Wang, Don Martin, Jiří Kylián, and Hans Van Manen among others.

As a maker, her work can be seen across the stage and screen. Most recently, Joan assisted Brigette Dunn-Korpela in choreographing South Coast Repertory's Alice's Wonderland, and shared the beginnings of a new work, Sowing Seeds, at L.A. Dance Project. Past collaborators include installation artist, Isabel Beavers, Grammy-Award winning musician and composer, Alex Wand, and composer Jaco Wong of C3LA Choir. Commercial and video credits include Starbucks®, NESTLE® PURE LIFE®, ATHLETA®, CA Milk, Ian Asher, Solange, Malynda Hale, Fyohna, and James Benton among others.

Joan is on faculty at Los Angeles Music & Arts School and is a teaching artist under Heidi Duckler Dance for LA's Best, an after school enrichment program that serves schools in neighborhoods with the fewest resources yet the greatest needs. She attended LACHSA, Boston Conservatory, and holds a BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography from California Institute of the Arts, where she was nominated for the Princess Grace Award. 

Outside of dance and performance, Joan is the Director of Worship Experience at her home church, and is the Site Author for B. Dunn MovementFree Lunch Company. , and Roobz Realty Group. Joan is represented by DDO Artists Agency for Print and Commercial work.
